Luna’s Wandering Stars

Control the powers of the cosmos. Explore your curiosity of space! Luna’s Wandering Stars is our love-letter to space; for the existential wonder it creates and the assertion that physics is beautiful. Luna’s Wandering Stars is an action-puzzle game that centers around real Newtonian physics and various ways to manipulate the universe. Change the strength of gravity, use rockets to boost your way through asteroid belts, or even bend the fabric of space with wormholes. Featuring realistic Newtonian physics, nine unique physics powers, online level creation and sharing, and a viciously self-aware story.

Luna’s Wandering Stars was Serenity Forge’s first full feature game, and took on the challenge of gamifying planetary physics in a fun and simple way. I was personally inspired by my incomplete experience learning physics in school. We would always solve complex equations and get a number result, with often little to no idea of how it would look in real life. Luna was meant to change that by helping visualize Newton’s and Kepler’s laws of motion in a fun puzzle game environment.

Since it was our first product, Luna was largely a learning experience for me and Serenity Forge. The game had numerous flaws, including switching game mechanics every 15 levels, being over-budgeted and having many indecisions of design that took away from the clarity of the vision. Still, Luna enjoyed mostly positive reviews and had numerous players who sunk over 100 hours into the game. Luna also carefully followed Serenity Forge’s vision of creating games that challenge the way people thing, creating an experience that tricked players into learning how planetary physics works on an intuitive level.
